My Lonely Day

Tonight's post is going to be short because we are busy doing projects left and right around here! I didn't want my friends to think I forgot about them though! 😉

Last night Talan's baseball game didn't get over until after 9:00. For some reason, Brett thought it would be a good idea to go down Parkway and right through Pigeon Forge. Well, remember that car show I was telling you about? Wow. People were lining the sidewalks with their cars and camp chairs and the road was backed up as far as you could see. I tried to get some pics, but most of them are blurry.
We did end up hitting almost every green light, so it didn't really take us much longer to get home. It was actually kind of fun to look at all of the cars and people. We are going to invite Toby and Jen to come down for it next year. I think they would love this! I asked Brett if he wanted to take the camp chairs down there this weekend and sit out with everybody. He told me to go ahead. I guess that was a no. 😂

Today Brett went to an appointment three and a half hours away in North Carolina and left before the kids were even up. That meant getting them up and ready for school all by myself. I haven't done that in over a year! The funny thing is, we usually end up getting around faster than when he's here. 😁 Today was no exception. We were ready so early that I said I wanted to drop some books off at the library. We got down to the stop sign and I realized I had forgotten the books AND my purse. Back up we went. While Janae was in getting my things, the Low Fuel light came on. Good thing we went back for my purse! Once that light comes on I'm basically on empty. By that point, we were no longer early. Oh, well. At least we weren't late!

I was so bored without Brett home all day. We don't usually even talk that much because he's working, but just knowing he's there and having someone to eat lunch with makes a huge difference! I wanted to read my new book, but instead I decided to get some projects done and surprise him.

I was able to get a few things organized in the kitchen. Most of our things are still at the storage unit though, so it didn't take me long to put away what we already had here. I'm not looking forward to getting those boxes this weekend. I like the empty and clean cupboards!

I did some more painting projects today. This table was here when we moved in. It was green and I kind of liked it but it didn't really coordinate very well.
Brett had sanded and stained the top for me a week ago and I decided to paint it the same color we did the wall cabinets in the kitchen in, since they are in the same room.

I also decided to repaint this lamp base because the lampshade I bought yesterday didn't look great with the off-white base. You can't see the whole thing, but this was the original lamp. How about that shade?! 😂
Here is my revamp of it. The base is now gray
The shade was plain so I dressed it up with this fabulous ribbon I found at Old Time Pottery. It has wire in it, so it bends really nicely. I followed a tutorial on Pinterest for making burlap rosettes, except I didn't use any hot glue! I just folded it up per the directions and then held it together with a few straight pins. This literally took me five minutes and if I decide I want to change it later, I can just slide it right off!

Isaac brought another worker with him this week, Jimmy. I feel bad because he's been here all week and I had no idea what his name was. I had to ask Janae! He's a really fast worker though! He got nearly the entire shower tiled downstairs in one day! I think I scared him when I took this picture. 😁

The kids got out of school an hour and ten minutes early today because of the car show, so we stopped at the library and then for ice cream cones. It was 97 degrees today and we decided to sit outside. The boys cracked me up at how focused they were on their dripping cones. 😁

Talan got a letter from Luke today and was beyond excited. We had him read it outloud to us. It's fun to hear what's going on back in Indiana! Luke is quite the character too, and he made us laugh quite a bit. Talan misses his friends so much! I'm glad he has made new friends here, but he'll never forget his old friends either. It's fun to see them communicating with letters. He loves checking the mailbox!

Janae was invited to join Junior Beta Club, which is based on high-performing grades and attitude. She will get to participate in several community service projects throughout the year. We are very proud of her!

That's all for tonight...I guess I ended up writing more than I had intended! Gotta get back to those projects so the house looks somewhat put together for our visitors next week, my mom and dad!!! 😍
