Back to School

Today was such a weird day. The kids have been with us nonstop for the past two-and-a-half weeks. Now all of a sudden they are gone and it feels empty without them! I guess I never noticed it as much back in Indiana because I was subbing most days and got to go to school with them.

This morning started out really good. They woke up easily and had breakfast at the table with no complaints!

Everyone was ready early and they happily posed for their annual First Day of School pictures.

I cannot believe how big they have gotten! They are not my little babies anymore! We found out yesterday that Janae is 5'3". That is less than two inches shorter than me!
We are not on the bus route, so we will drive them the ten miles to school each day.  Being the picture-taking-mom that I am, I made them pose once again before they headed into school. Janae especially loved that. 😂

After we dropped them off, we headed into Sevierville to get some knee pads for Janae since we could not find hers in the storage unit. When we got back to the school to drop them off, we saw Janae having class outside!
Brett wanted to yell"Hi, Sissy!" but I told him that probably wasn't the best way to get her some friends. 😁

I got little jobs done here and there around the house and was completely bored without the kids there!  Brett had a conference call, so I went to pick them up at the end of the day. It was bright and sunny and then all of a sudden it poured down rain as I was waiting in line.
The car line procedure was so organized and went so fast. I pulled up to a teacher in the parking lot and told her who I was picking up. She said their names in a radio, along with which door I would be at. I then drove up to the building and there was Talan waiting for me, and Easton coming out the door.

The boys were SOOOOO excited to tell me about their days. Easton has 27 kids in his class, but there are two teachers. That is the only second grade class. There are three Bradens and two Elijahs in his class. 😁 Easton has always hated cafeteria food and wanted to pack his lunch, but we insisted they all try it. He loved it! Yay! He accidentally got strawberry milk. 😊 Overall, he had a great day, loves his teachers, and gave it two thumbs up.

Talan thinks he has 25 kids in his class. 😊 There are two fifth grade classes. Apparently there was just one class and then ten students enrolled in the last week! This is his teacher's first year teaching, and she just moved here from Florida. He has made two friends: Joe and another kid but he can't remember his name. 😂 Overall, Talan had an excellent day and gave it four thumbs up. 😁

When we got home, we admired some of the work that was completed today. Isaac added the first layer of texture to the wall where the bathroom door used to be.

Terry is finished with the tile in the bathroom. I am in LOVE with it. I can't wait until we are able to get everything put in place!
I think it's hard to tell from this picture, but Isaac painted the walls in the bathroom. The color is called Sprinkle and is kind of a minty greenish blue.

After we ate dinner, it was time to go pick Janae up from volleyball practice and hear all about her day. We were early, so I insisted we pose for more pictures. This never gets old here! I asked Brett if he thought people who were born here appreciate the beauty of God's creation. I know we sure do! Every time we see the mountains we ooh and ahh over them. 😁

I even made Janae pose once she came out of practice, looking like a teenager!
I think you can tell from the smile on her face that she also had a wonderful day. She made new friends, enjoyed her teachers and had fun at volleyball. She is one of the tallest in her class and the kids were shocked to hear that she came from a grade with about 100 students. There are 25 students in her grade and they all go to the same classes together. She said that is weird! 😊 We also found out that her first volleyball game is Tuesday. That was fast!

We are so thankful that the kids enjoyed their first day and seem to fit in well. We are looking forward to this year and all that is to come!
